Savings Calculator — Compound Interest Simulation
The Savings Calculator is a free online tool that simulates the growth of your savings over time using compound interest. Enter your initial deposit, monthly contribution, annual interest rate, and investment period, and the calculator shows the final balance, total amount invested, total interest earned, and a detailed month-by-month growth table. The visual chart clearly illustrates how compound interest accelerates your wealth over time. The simulation supports multiple compounding frequencies (monthly, quarterly, annually) and lets you compare different scenarios side by side. Adjust the monthly contribution or interest rate and see instantly how each change affects your final balance. The tool also calculates the effective annual rate from the nominal rate and compounding frequency, helping you compare investment products that compound at different intervals. A detailed table shows each month's beginning balance, contribution, interest earned, and ending balance.Individual investors plan retirement savings strategies and set monthly contribution goals. Parents plan education savings for their children. Financial advisors demonstrate the power of compound interest to clients (the "eighth wonder of the world" effect). Young professionals see how starting early dramatically affects their final balance compared to starting later. Students studying financial mathematics visualize compound growth dynamics. The calculator also helps compare different investment vehicles by inputting their respective expected returns and compounding frequencies.Savings Calculator is part of the facilita.tools collection of free financial planning utilities. Available in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, optimized for desktop and mobile.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is compound interest?
Compound interest is when interest is calculated on both the initial amount and the accumulated interest from previous periods, creating an exponential growth effect.
Can I include monthly deposits?
Yes, add a monthly deposit amount and the calculator will include it in each period, compounding along with the previous balance.
Is the savings account yield (poupança) the same as the Selic rate?
No. When the Selic rate is above 8.5% per year, savings yield is fixed at 0.5% per month plus the TR (Taxa Referencial). When the Selic is at or below 8.5%, savings yield is 70% of the Selic plus TR.
