What is the difference between PIS, PASEP, NIT and NIS?
PIS is for private employees, PASEP for public servants, NIT for self-employed, and NIS is the unified identifier. They all use the same format and algorithm.
How is the PIS check digit calculated?
The PIS uses a Modulo 11 algorithm with multipliers (3,2,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2) applied to the first 10 digits.
Is the PIS number the same as CPF?
No. The PIS (11 digits) and CPF (11 digits) are different numbers with different purposes. The PIS is issued by the Ministry of Labor for social programs, while the CPF is issued by the Federal Revenue for tax identification.
